Astronauts is my second collaboration with director Mariano. In our first film Sonntag we wanted to explore a surround-scape that engulfed the audience. With this film we wanted to do the opposite and make an excruiciatingly flat soundscape. The mix is incredibly dense with documentary recordings of Vienna, occasionally drowning out the dialogue. It is an claustrophobic and trashy wall of sound that refuses to glamorise the depicted situations or characters.
With this film we wanted to explore the sacrifices some are forced to make when society fails them. The full film can be seen below.
